Personalize5minutes is a program created as a by product of living a hectic life. Often as individuals balancing family, work, and self, we sacrifice our personal needs in the process. As a person who operates two of my own businesses, pursues two sports, fitness training, and a spiritual practice, I am often frustrated that I cannot keep up with the demands. Instead of completely giving up, I started to carve out 5 minute practices, so I stayed in touch with all aspects of my life. For example, I might stretch for 5 minutes and sit quietly for another 5 minutes before charging into my day. As I drive to work and listen to the radio, I listen to the beat of the song and imagine the timing through my body in movement. As my day progresses and I am walking somewhere, I focus on my posture, the swing of my legs, timing of weight transfer each step, and the feeling of elasticity in my joints. At the end of a tiring day, I am often be faced with going to the gym to work out and practicing ballroom dancing. If I feel overwhelmed or run out of time for a full work out and practice, instead of skipping it completely, I go and pick out 5 minutes of key principles to focus on from my homework. 5 minutes isn't a substitute for not taking on lengthier fitness practices or one of the ten aspects I consider important in daily life, but it allows the body to stay "in the loop." Over the years of practicing this system, I recognized that when I would go to take on a more complete training or practice session, my mind and body is much quicker to respond.and remember. The other huge benefit is the psychological one. I often feel reinspired or reenergized after doing something towards my personal needs. Reaching for my personalized 5 minutes might mean reaching less for something less healthful. Try it. Have fun. Enjoy what life has to offer even if it is a five minute increment.
